As I write this riders are waking up, scratching their bits and going down to get their breakfasts. Then they will prepare to ride in a race that is arguably one of the greatest sporting spectacles ever. Yes, it is that time again, the Isle of Mann TT gets underway today with the first of the superbike races.
Sadly, once again we have had the dangers of this wonderful spectacle brought home to us in an uncompromising fashion. During qualification on Wednesday night Dan Kneen had an accident and was killed. Dan rode for Tyco BMW and was having his best TT ever, already having set his fastest ever lap on the course.
Dan’s father released a statement saying :
“Dan would want the Tyco BMW team to crack on, they have my full backing. Let’s think of the happy times with Dan and smile when you think of him. Thanks to the marshals, medics and everyone involved. We are also thinking of Steve Mercer as well as sending best wishes for all the other TT competitors. The TT show will go on. RIP my son, Daniel Richard Kneen, from Dad.”
And on Friday night Dan’s brother, Ryan, took to the course to complete a practice lap in his brothers honor, wearing one of his brother’s spare helmets.
The TT is a wonderful spectacle that should continue as long as people want to compete there. However we do have to realize just how dangerous it is and remember those who have given their all in pursuit of the ultimate goal in motorcycle racing, RIP Dan Keen.
Have you got too much money? If so a Swiss Watch manufacturer will be only too happy to take some of it off your hands. Carl F. Bucherer working with the Harley Davidson workshop Bünderbike have taken a Harley Davidson Softail Slim and come up with what they are calling The Blue Edition. It is of course covered in bling, Diamonds are everywhere and the deep luster of the blue paint is achieved by plating everything with silver beforehand! If money is no object then….well I have a unique Z1100 that I will sell you for only half a million ....it does need a little work!
This has been doing the rounds on the net. Motovlogger, Royal Jordanian cruised round Piccardilly Circus in London on an electric bike and you are not going to find anything more British than this. Complete, with red buses and good manners, watch it to the end and see that there is hope for all of us as long as people like those three exist.
You think I am going to put a blurry picture of a H2 on a film set
when i can have a young Kelly Mcgillis instead?
Finally, Topgun 2 is coming soon, allegedly, and Tom Cruise is in it and on a Kawasaki again. Do you think that seeing as I had a Gpz 900r when the original film came out it will justify me buying an H2 because it is featuring in this film? Yeah I know I am an old git!
